Dr. Ralph Hughes is a highly sought subject matter expert in criminal justice, security, leadership, and self-defense. Ralph has spoken before audiences up to 10,000 people. Ralph has more than 25-years of combined experience in martial arts and self-defense. Specifically, he trained in Japanese Goju under Dr. Ernest Hyman, of Harlem Karate Institute in 1987. Ralph is a certified Jeet Kune Do instructor, ground fighting instructor, SIRT tactical pistol instructor, knife fighting instructor, and holds a black belt (Level-6) in Krav Maga. He continues to train in three distinct Krav Maga systems.
Ralph also has more than 15-years of self-defense instructional experience, including training law enforcement officers on various subjects such as: self-defense, situational awareness, use of force, confrontation management, multiple attackers, active shooters, and de-escalation techniques.
Dr. H has more than 25-years law enforcement experience. He has worked as a patrolman in the City of New York; New York County Detective; United States, Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security Service; and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Ralph currently serves as the lead defensive tactics instructor for a federal law enforcement agency (name of agency cannot be divulged due to sensitive position) in south Florida.
Ralph has also served as the Lead Faculty Area Chair at the University of Phoenix, local campuses. He was responsible for leading the College of Criminal Justice.
Ralph has received many credentials and awards as an instructor and lecturer. He is certified in Krav Maga and received numerous instructor teaching certifications, namely from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and Martial Arts Instructor College.
Ralph is a proud member of the Global Martial Arts Association, IDEA Health & Fitness Association, and International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, also known as ILEETA.
